Abstract
A solid state laser (SSL) pumped by a vertical cavity surface emitting laser diodes (VCSEL) was presented and the influence of pump laser diameter on the operating characteristics was determined. The SSL was achieved without any transverse mode control elements in the laser cavity. The input output characteristics of the SSL showed a minimum threshold pump power of 0.8 mW. The pump power density was found to decrease with an increase in the diameter of VCSELs. This resulted in an increase in laser threshold and a decrease in efficiency.
