Abstract
Background: Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) have become important nosocomial pathogens causing outbreaks worldwide. Patients undergoing dialysis represent a vulnerable population due to their comorbid conditions, frequent use of antibacterial agents, and frequent contact with health care settings.
