Vacuolated Erythroblasts in Hyperosmolar Coma

Abstract

A patient with postencephalitic hypothalamic syndrome on 2 separate occasions had hyperglycemic, nonketotic, hyperosmolar coma and pancytopenia. Reversible vacuolization of erythroblasts was observed in the marrow during each episode.
