Tele-neuropsychology: Bringing neuropsychology into the future of health care delivery

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The sudden restrictions of in-person healthcare visits brought on by COVID-19 restrictions abruptly changed how outpatient healthcare delivered services. Providers suddenly had to adapt to using teleconferencing to evaluate and treat patients. Tele-neuropsychology is in its infancy, and many providers had never used or even considered tele-neuropsychology before COVID-19. This chapter reviews the history of tele-neuropsychology, the critical research showing the reliability, feasibility, effectiveness, and limitations of tele-neuropsychological test administration emphasizing the pros and cons of doing tele-neuropsychology, and different tele-neuropsychology models. Practical tips about presentation, consent forms, test security, improving the in-home testing environment, addressing tele-neuropsychology in clinical reports, billing, new legislative initiative to allow interstate tele-psychology, resources, and the future of tele-neuropsychology are discussed.
