    Abstract

After incubation of testosterone and androstenedione with 105000μg microsomes of rat liver 6α‐hydroxytestosterone and 6α‐hydroxyandrostenedione, respectively, were isolated and identified by thin‐layer chromatography and gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry. This is the first example of 6α‐hydroxylation of steroid hormones in the rat and the findings are discussed in relation to earlier reports of 6α‐ and 6β‐hydroxylated steroids in mammalia.
