We are sincerely grateful to Dr. D.K. Fukushima for providing us with the necessary reference steroids. The skilful technical assistance of Miss Gun Elisabeth Larsson and Miss Dagmar Boden is gratefully acknowledged. This investigation was supported by grants from the Swedish Medical Research Council to B.L. (No. 13X-2525) and to Dr. J. Sj~vall (No. 13X-219). The authors are indebted to "Syskonen Wess~ns Stiftelse" for a fellowship awarded to one of us (J.-A. G.)

N2 - After incubation of testosterone, 18-hydroxytestosterone and 5α-dihydrotestosterone with rat liver microsomes 17β,18-dihydroxy-5α-androstan-3-one, 5α-androstane-3α,17β,18-triol and 5α-androstane-3β,17β,18-triol have been isolated and characterized by thin-layer and gas-liquid chromatography and by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Furthermore, after incubation of 5α-dihydrotestosterone two androstanetetrols were isolated, the mass spectrometric characteristics of which indicate the presence of an 18-hydroxyl group.
