Abstract

Spinal fusion surgery is one of the most important procedures in the armamentarium of a Neurosurgeon. Fusion procedures are used to treat a variety of conditions including spinal fractures, spinal deformity such as scoliosis, and low back pain and sciatica caused by degenerative conditions. The operations performed today continue to evolve due to advances in spinal instrumentation and imaging, and the development of minimally invasive surgery. Decades of experience have resulted in major improvements in patient outcomes, safety, and postoperative recovery.
