Abstract

In an attempt to explore the existence of large-scale coherent structures, turbulent fluid mass of a size comparable to the width of the flow, in the nearly self-preserving region of an axisymmetric free air jet at a Reynolds number Re//D equals 6. 8 multiplied by 10**4 has been investigated for x/D greater than equivalent to 40 via both long and short time-averaged space-time correlation measurements. It is the purpose of the present investigation to conclusively document the existence as well as some details of large-scale coherent sturctures in the nearly self-preserving region of the axisymmetric free air jet.
