Abstract
Encouraged by the promising possibilities of predicting the sensitivity of a tumor tumo to hormonal treatment offered by measurement of its content of steroid receptors, we carried out similar studies with benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostatic cancer. The presence of a specific androgen receptor was demonstrated in both BPH and carcinomatous tissue. A specific receptor for progestins was also discovered, while no receptors for estrogens or glucocorticoids were detected in BPH tissue. The methods by which the receptor measurements were made are reported.
