Abstract
Palliative Care is multidisciplinary care that is focused on patients with life limiting/advanced diseases. It can be provided in a number of settings. Opioids are the mainstay of therapy. Palliative sedation is used in some cases when patients have refractory severe symptoms occurring at the end of life. It is viewed as being both legal and consistent with the ethical principle of beneficence but is only initiated after key steps are taken by a multidisciplinary team.
