    Abstract

Osteomyelitis means inflammation of bone. In usual clinical circumstances, bone infection is caused primarily by bacteria, but may also be caused by other microorganisms such as fungi and viruses. Approximately 1 out of 5000 children will at some time have osteomyelitis. Boys have osteomyelitis between two and two and one-half times as often as girls.
