Abstract

MicroRNA regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level, and have important roles that control endocrine regulation of the ovary. While previous studies investigated changes in miRNA expression within the different cell types of the ovary, an important remaining challenge is to elucidate the functional role that these miRNA play during the hormonal cycles. In this chapter, we highlight miRNAs that are involved in endocrine processes controlling the ovarian antral follicle, the ovulatory follicle, and the corpus luteum. We discuss studies performed in vivo to elucidate the physiologic role these miRNA play in ovarian tissue.
