Abstract

BP might be due to a viral etiology but the role of antiviral therapy remains controversial and the term BP should be reserved for acute, idiopathic, and neurologically isolated seventh nerve palsy to avoid diagnostic confusion. Clinicians should consider corticosteroids in patients with BP but on an individual, risk to benefit basis. The use of antiviral treatment remains controversial because of modest if any benefit shown by current evidence.
