Abstract

Pneumonia is inflammation of the pulmonary parenchyma caused by an infectious etiology. A diverse group of microorganisms causes it and has a wide range of noninfectious differential diagnoses. This chapter describes the common histo-pathological morphologies of pneumonia, such as lobar pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, organizing pneumonia, and others. Although not intended to be exhaustive, the reader will have an opportunity to familiarize and differentiate between the commonly described histological variants and integrate the information with the clinical and radiological presentation of the disease.
