Abstract
The paper explains the derivation of a new equation governing the motions of two vortex filaments. Applications to some cases are made. A modification of the theory for a case with a certain external shearing field and its solution are represented. The equation for the two vortex filaments has a solution of a double helix in both cases with and without an external field, the former of which corresponds to the helical pairing observed by C. Chandrsuda et al. The authors examined also a possibility of a solution in which initial two parallel filaments are coupled to a uniform double helix.
