Abstract

Long semiconductor optical amplifier can be employed in transparent semiconductor optical amplifier based nonlinear optical loop mirror (TSOA-NOLM). This is done to reduce the pump power dependence on the transparency carrier density of the SOAs and also to increase the transmission of the switches. The SOA is considered to the probe pulse if the carrier density is restored to the value existing prior to the arrival of the pump pulse. An optical pulse model is used to simulate the pump power dependent transparency carrier density of SOAs.
