Dementia, dwindles, depression, nonadherence, and symptom burden in end-stage kidney disease

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Patients with end-stage kidney disease have limited physical, mental, and emotional resilience and capacity. These factors negatively impact the health-associated quality of life and shape the trajectory of patient outcomes on dialysis. Dementia and cognitive decline lead to poor patient outcomes and caregiver burnout, often necessitating withdrawal from dialysis support and transition to kidney supportive care and palliation. ESKD patients experience symptoms which include chronic pain, pruritus, restless leg syndrome, sleep disturbances, muscle cramps, and fatigue.
