Abstract
Choosing a dream job is like choosing a dream partner. There is no perfect job, but with some searching, you can find a job that will provide both fulfillment and happiness. This chapter presents major criteria that are paramount in choosing a job, which are broken into Tier 1 and Tier 2 considerations. Tier 1 considerations consist of the major items that affect the personal life of the emergency physician, including location, salary, and schedule, whereas Tier 2 considerations are intangibles that differentiate a miserable work life from a wonderful one. The intangibles include culture matches, commute, and employer. The chapter advises aspiring emergency physicians (EPs) to research job opportunities and organize their practice aspirations to prioritize what is most important to them.
