Abstract
A series of 5 cases of carcinoma of the cervix complicated by a ruptured pelvic abscess is presented and the literature reviewed. Staging is quite inaccurate in these patients. Treatment must be highly individualized and consists of a combination of operation and irradiation. Prognosis appears to be related primarily to the stage of the lesion rather than to the coexistence of severe adnexal infection.
