Abstract
A recently developed theory of the influence of fluid flow on the plasticity of porous media is applied to an axially symmetric punch problem. In this analysis the porous media is taken to be a Coulomb plastic and fluid is assumed to flow through the punch into the porous material. Effective stresses under the punch, the punch force and the plastic slip-line field are computed in terms of the fluid pressure. In addition to providing an example of the application of the theory, this problem serves as a basis for possible experimental verification of the theory and can possibly provide some insight into more practical problems relating to the drilling of porous rocks.
