3D modeling as a tool for structural heart interventions

Structural heart interventions are increasingly becoming the standard in alternative treatment for patients with prohibitive surgical risks. Computational and 3D-printed modeling are proving instrumental not only as visualization tools for understanding complex structural defects and communicating with patients, but also in the predictive monitoring of percutaneous devices and interventions. This chapter encompasses applications of computational and 3D-printed modeling for the enhancement of teaching, functional testing of percutaneous devices, device innovation, and preprocedural planning. In addition, it reviews the most common percutaneous structural procedures and the attendant technological advancements in computational and 3D-printed modeling that are applied to facilitate the preparation for structural heart interventions.
