Houston Methodist Hospital's preeminent John W. Overstreet, MD Award, is an award initiated to honor and acknowledges a physician on its medical staff who exemplifies the best of the medical profession; demonstrates respect, empathy and caring in their interactions with patients, family and staff; and supports the mission of the hospital. On Doctors' Day 1997, the first recipient of the award was John W. Overstreet, MD, former Chief of Surgery. After presentation of the award to Dr. Overstreet, it was renamed in his honor. The Award is to be given annually on Doctors’ Day.
