Dr. Proserpio is from Carugo in northern Italy. He completed architectural studies in Milan Polytechnic Institute prior to joining Milan Diocesan Seminary. He was ordained to the Catholic priesthood by Cardinal Archbishop Carlo Maria Martini, and from 1996 to 2003 he worked as a priest in the parish of Turbigo, Milan. From 2003 to the present he has worked as chaplain in IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Milan (National Cancer Institute, Milan).

In 2009 he was awarded Master’s Degree in Theology with specialization in Pastoral Health Care (Pontifical Lateran University, Rome, Italy). In 2016 he gained a Master’s Degree in (the provision of Educational Training) Training of Trainers from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, Italy. In 2018 he completed his doctoral studies with L’Istituto Internazionale di Teologia Pastorale Sanitaria Camillianum (The Camillian International Institute of Pastoral Healthcare) under the auspices of the Pontifical Lateran University, Rome, Italy.
