Tristi W. Muir, MD is Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Houston Methodist Hospital. She is board-certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Muir received her medical degree from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in 1993. She completed residency in obstetrics and gynecology in 1997, at Texas A&M Health Sciences Center. She completed a dual fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic in 2003.

During her medical career, Dr. Muir served in the United States Air Force and obtained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Early in her military career, Dr. Muir was the Ambulatory Gynecology Chief at the largest USAF clinic.

Dr. Muir has received numerous professional awards for her contributions to research, teaching and medical practice. She is a national and internationally recognized speaker on pelvic health and gynecology. She is an active member of numerous national and international professional societies. Dr. Muir has written numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers, textbook chapters, and videos. Dr. Muir had a recurring column in the Galveston Daily News on women’s health.

Throughout her medical career, Dr. Muir has been involved in humanitarian missions. As a medical student, she volunteered at a clinic providing care to migrant workers. While in the United States Air Force, Dr. Muir participated in medical missions to Easter Island. Following her military career, Dr. Muir has travelled to India to train physicians on pelvic reconstructive surgical procedures. Closer to home, she has volunteered at the St. Vincent’s Clinic in Galveston.

Research interests

Dr. Muir is passionate about women’s health. She is dedicated to providing excellent quality of care for women through research, teaching, and an unparalleled patient experience.
