Dr. Omar G. Ahmed is a rhinologist and skull base surgeon and Director of Clinical Research at Houston Methodist specializing in the treatment of chronic sinus and nasal disorders. His research focuses on improving the understanding and treatment of chronic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis, with particular interest in post-nasal drip, sinonasal inflammation, and minimally invasive therapies targeting the posterior nasal nerve. He has published extensively on outcomes of emerging treatments, including in-office procedures and biologic therapies, and is actively involved in clinical trials evaluating new technologies for patients with chronic sinonasal disease.
Dr. Ahmed’s research program also explores how environmental exposures, lifestyle factors, and emerging technologies influence upper airway health. His work incorporates large clinical datasets, wearable device data, and artificial intelligence–based predictive modeling to better understand risk factors and disease progression in chronic sinusitis. He is particularly interested in applying artificial intelligence to analyze sinonasal imaging and nasal endoscopy, including the development of tools that use audiomic and visual data to objectively characterize nasal airflow, secretions, and mucosal inflammation. Through collaborations with engineers, data scientists, and clinicians, his research aims to advance precision medicine in rhinology and develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to improve patient outcomes.
