Dr. Herrera received her first academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Maryland Medical Systems. She has held faculty positions at Emory University Hospital, University of Kentucky and at Baylor College of Medicine prior to joining Houston Methodist in 2018.
Dr. Herrera is board certified in anesthesiology, critical care medicine, and perioperative transesophageal echocardiography. In 2017 Dr. Herrera was awarded Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. The FASA designation identifies and promotes those ASA members exhibiting the highest standard in professionalism/leadership, advocacy for the profession and patient safety, and education.
Dr. Herrera is Director of Fellowship Education for CV Anesthesiology at Houston Methodist Hospital in partnership with University of Texas Houston. This is an ACGME accredited program. She is also Co-Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Specialty Rotation in Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Anesthesiology at Houston Methodist Hospital.

- Effectiveness and safety of four-factor prothrombin complex use in left ventricular assist device implantation surgery.
- Evaluation of mitral valve structure and function in health and in disease.
