Personal profile

Dr. Dawei Zou's primary research focus centers on unraveling the intricate molecular pathways governing immune cell-mediated rejection of transplanted organs. Throughout his extensive research and professional endeavors, significant findings have emerged, including: 1.) Illuminating the role of T cell exhaustion as a novel contributor to transplant tolerance. 2.) Establishing the critical impact of IRF4 deletion in CD8+ T cells in abrogating terminal effector differentiation and fostering transplant acceptance. 3.) Demonstrating that CD4+ T cell immunity is dependent on an intrinsic stem-like program. Building upon the above findings, he aims to investigate deeper into the mechanisms underlying the redirection of T cells towards exhausted or dysfunctional counterparts, with the goal of achieving transplant tolerance without the use of immunosuppressants.

Research interests

Dr. Dawei Zou’s research interests are to define the molecular mechanisms by which immune cells reject the transplanted organs and develop novel strategies to selectively abrogate undesired immune responses against transplanted organs.
