Becky A. Helms, MSN, RN, CMSRN

Becky is a Professional Practice Leader (PPL) and Solid Organ Transplant Nurse Educator at Houston Methodist Hospital, where she serves as a subject matter expert supporting acute care transplant nursing education. In the PPL role, she leads the Foundations in Transplant course for new transplant staff, oversees onboarding and competency development across two units, and has spearheaded training initiatives for over 100 nurses and patient care staff supporting inpatient transplant overflow units.

Becky began her nursing career at Houston Methodist Hospital in 2010 on a medical-surgical unit before transitioning to the Surgical Liver Intensive Care Unit in 2013, where she spent nearly a decade as a bedside ICU nurse caring for critically ill pre- and post-transplant patients, including liver transplant recipients with high acuity scores. During this time, she also served as the unit's CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy) trainer, an ICU Competency Fair Trainer, and a preceptor for student nurses and new hires.

Becky is an active contributor to the transplant nursing community, having presented at national and international conferences including the International Symposium on Advances in Critical Care Medicine (ISAC), the International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS) Congress in Singapore, and the International Transplant Nursing Society (ITNS) Symposium in Philadelphia. She was also a guest lecturer at the IMAGINE Innovation Summit and presented at the Mayo Clinic's Solid Organ Transplant CNE Nursing Conference. In May 2026, she received the Nursing Excellence Award for Outstanding Nursing Research and Innovation, recognizing her leadership in nursing research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Texas Christian University and went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner at UT Health Science Center in Houston. She is also a Board Certified Medical Surgical Registered Nurse.
