Dr. Andrea G. Quarti was born in Ponte San Pietro, Italy, in 1973. He obtained his medical degree at the Università Statale di Milano in 1998 and soon started his residency at the San Raffaele Hospital with Prof Ottavio Alfieri. During this period, he was exposed to mitral valve repair, minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery. He completed his residency at Ospedali Riuniti di Ancona in 2003. In 2004, he become a staff member in Ancona and gained experience in surgery for acquired heart disease. Following his interest in congenital heart disease, he spent 6 months at the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. Upon returning to Ancona, he was asked to develop a program of Congenital Heart Surgery, which finally opened in 2008. As of 2008 he became a senior staff member of the congenital heart disease department in Ancona, Italy. He gained experience in all the spectrum of congenital heart disease along all the ages. Between 2011 and 2017 he was the head of minimally invasive surgery in congenital heart disease and from 2016 to 2017 he was vice-director of the department. In 2019, he became a senior staff at Policlinico Sant’Orsola di Bologna, one of the biggest congenital program in the country, and completed his training also in heart transplantation and ventricular assist device.
Dr. Quarti has 20 years of experience in all the spectrum of Cardiac surgery, with special interest in Congenital Heart Disease, Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD), Valve reconstruction, and Heart Failure but his surgical practice cover also all the aspects of the acquired heart disease. In 2022, he was awarded a high specialty in ACHD at Policlinico Sant’Orsola Hospital. He became a teacher of Congenital Heart Disease at the University Master of Congenital Heart Disease of the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna. He is a board member of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery in the congenital domain and is member of the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association. He is completing his last year of PhD on the field of the use of MRI 4D flow to assess the Fontan Associated Liver Disease (FALD).
Research interests
He has authored book chapters in the field of Congenital Heart Surgery and valve repair for Minerva Medica Press and Springer Verlag. He is author and co-author of numerous peer reviewed articles and presented at the major international congresses of the most prestigious Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
